Rajasthan is the most famous tourist destinations of the country. Every Year several foreigners’ visit here for its historic forts and majestic palaces. But it is also popular for the number of haunted places it is supposed to have. As on my previous blog I have informed you about Bhangarh Fort where the Archaeologist and Government of Rajasthan doesn’t permit people to enter the location after sunset. And this time I am going to tell you about another haunted place of Rajasthan, the Brijraj Bhawan Palace Hotel in Kota.

Once this palace was the home of Major Charles Burton, now it’s a heritage hotel today but it is famous for being a haunted palace. The story about Brijraj Bhawan Palace Hotel is that Major Burton was killed here by Indian sepoys during the rebellion of 1857. He was holed up with his two sons at uppers rooms as they looted the palace and then they surrendered after five hours of blockade. The sepoys killed all of them and later the British buried their bodied in the Kota cemetery with full military rights. The British also reclaimed this palace which later became the property of the Maharaja of Kota. In the 70s, the government renewed it and became the Brijraj Bhawan Palace Hotel.

But soon the palace became the topic of talk when people began saying that it was haunted by the ghost of Major Charles Burton. Even though his spirit doesn’t harm anyone, guards working here have heard the voice of a man speaking in English and commanding them not to fall asleep or not to smoke. And if the guards fall asleep on duty, then the spirit even slaps them to wake them up. This incident has happened with number of guards. Though the guests have not had much of a problem here, but some guests have complained of feeling a sudden discomfort in some parts of the palace.
